I had a travel bug that I just felt like I had to get rid of since we’d had it all winter.  We’re not winter geocachers, so there is a considerable amount of time of slumber during the long cold season…  :)   This was a cute cache, wonder how it doesn’t get muggled since it’s so out in the open.  We SL and traded travel bugs, and I also left a Sacramento geo pin in there, too for someone.

Stopped by this one after a friend talked about it.  We’d only looked for the one inside the dog park, not the one outside.  We still didn’t have luck with the one inside the dog park, plus there were snakes everywhere!!!  But we found this one, and geodog Sentry had a great time running around the park on this beautiful day.  I also left 2 geocaching decals in the container.

Geocaching Log:
This was cute, we hadn’t tried for this one before. It was a nice day to take our dog out to the dog park, though we’ve still had zero luck with the one inside the park. We SL, and left a couple of geocaching decals for whoever comes next. TFTC!

We were looking for a place to trade off Travel Bugs, and luckily found this one.  The view of Sugar Loaf was awesome, so we were glad we stopped here!

Geocaching Log:

We were trying to trade TBs and searching around for a cache that had one! Glad we found this one. The sign said ‘No Dogs Allowed’, but whatever, we weren’t there too long. Beautiful area, nice views of Sugar Loaf. We traded TBs and also left a plastic ant and a cheerleader magic bean. TFTC!

Well, our night camping was kind of awful.  There were train tracks all around the campground, and a very large, fast moving train roared through about every 15-30 minutes.  It was impossible to sleep so we left a day early.  We still stopped for this Earth Cache on the way out because I really wanted to see it.

Geocaching Log:

This was THE geocache we came to Winona for. I know, I know. We were very thankful for this, after staying in an atrocious campground, we at least got some good views. We also met a nice couple out for a walk enjoying the scenery. Sentry, the geocache dog, did most of our measurements, so they might be off… TFTC, we had a lot of fun!

I love doing multi caches, especially when puzzles are involved.  We haven’t done too many, but they end up being the ones I remember the most and enjoy the most.  Here is an example of the puzzle to find the final stage of this cache:

Final Stage:
To get the coords for the final stage, count the number of vowels and number of consonants that are on the stone monument at the posted coords.

(vowels X 20) + 405 = ABC
(consonants X 20) + 46 = DEF

Final stage is at N 44 14.ABC W093 15.DEF

Not difficult math, but more than most people in Waseca do on a Sunday morning… 

This cache was very special to me.  The history of the first cemetery is what you would call disturbing, it seems it was basically a dumping ground for unwanted babies.  Unmarked graves; you’d never really know it was even a cemetery except apparently some kids at a Sunday School cleaned it up with their teachers and had a monument donated…  Which caused us of course to have a laugh regarding anti-choicers… This place, I hope, is a severe reminder to people of not only the way that people with disabilities have been treated in our society, but also of what happens when babies are not wanted or cannot be cared for…

Faribault State Hospital Baby Cemetery; also known as Grand View Farm Baby Cemetery

Geocaching Log:

This was our last stop in a short geocache loop with our dog, Sentry.

This was a very special cache for me. I work with some people who lived in the place when it was called “Faribault State Hospital”… The stories they tell!!! One of them relays a story about how it was their special job to stay up all night and listen if anyone there cried out or needed help, and then they were supposed to run and wake up the night staff! And that’s one of the funnier stories. Talk about taking advantage of people…

This was a nice multi, and pointed out a sad piece of history. I only hope that people learn from that history and that our country doesn’t go back to those kind of conditions just to save a few dollars… TFTC!

This one needed help, but the park was AWESOME!  Small, no one was there, and amazing views.  It was really, really windy out, but we still managed to eat lunch out there.  We also helped out the cache.

Geocaching Log:

We grabbed lunch and headed out to eat at this park. It was a big windy to eat out there, but we managed. Beautiful view, thanks for showing us this great park!

The cache itself was in a bad state when we found it, the log was soaking wet, no lid on the container. We put it in a ziploc bag and left some new paper, but it could still use some help… But still, TFTC! Great area, totally worth it!

We’d been meaning to stop by some of these roadside attractions, so since there was a geocache here we had an excuse.  We also were hungry for lunch.

We’ve had a few of the Roadside Attractions on our to do list to go see, so we figured we might as well grab a geocache while we were there. We also got some lunch, yum! SL, TFTH!

Snow Hero hadn’t ever seen a Frisbee golf course!  Seriously!  Lol.  He was being all snarky, too, it was hilarious.  The Maiden Rock Campground can be seen from the trail, and it looks like a really nice place to camp!

Geocaching Log:

My favorite part of this cache was Snow Hero saying “Is this one called ‘Made in Shade’?” I say yes. He says, “Oh good, this is the right one then…” Lol. Too funny!!! We left a little froggie and also an awesome gem key chain/lip gloss set for some girlie girl who happens upon the cache- I’ve been waiting for a cache to leave that in, it’s really cute. I took a Maiden Rock pin to add to the growing collection on my geocache bag. Snow Hero also got to find out what Frisbee golf is, he’d apparently never seen a Frisbee golf course before. TFTC!

We made a geocache loop this morning up Highway 13, 60 and then back on 35.  This was our first cache and it was a lot of fun, it’s just beautiful out there!  Nice and cool this morning, so no worries about the temp.  I had a monster toy I wanted to leave but it was too big for the cache, so we left some smaller items.

Geocaching Log:

Found this out on a geocache loop today with our precious dog, Sentry. Liked the geocache decorations, you can tell your daughter that she did a good job. We wanted to share more swag so we left a praying mantis and a couple of magic beans… Not really magic, but kind of fun. TFTC!

We went for a morning walk with our little Sentry dog and found a geocache.  It was hot outside, so we only went for one today.  I really wanted to trade TBs but there weren’t any in the cache even though it said there was one.  Boo.  Oh well.  I don’t like geocaching when it’s so hot out so we went home.

Geocaching Log:

Took a mid-morning walk with our little pup, she loves going hunting for geocaches. Well, she loves sniffing the sides of trails, mostly. There weren’t any TBs in there and there was just a string of those Mardi Gras beads. I wasn’t feeling too wild, so we left those there… We also left a small butterfly and a small froggie so there would be a bit more swag in there. TN, SL, TFTC!
